Nina Simone - Ain't Got No...I've Got Life

Nina Simone — 1933-2003

Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon on February 21st, 1933, in the small town of Tryon, North Carolina. In a poor southern family, Eunice was the sixth of eight children - four boys and four girls. Early on in life, Eunice displayed extraordinary musical talent while playing piano and singing at the local church. At the age of six, a local benefactor and music teacher were so impressed with Eunice's talent that the "Eunice Waymon Fund" was established in order to finance her general and musical education.

By the age of ten Eunice had made so much progress she was invited to give her first piano recital at the town library. It was at this recital where Eunice first experienced the racism her everyday life had sheltered her from. During her performance, Eunice's parents were removed from the first row in order to accommodate white auidence members. This would be a bittersweet concert for Eunice as not only did she receive her first round of applause but, also, the seed for her future commitment to and passion for civil rights was planted.

With the help of the local financial supporters, Eunice enrolled in the Juilliard School of Music in New York and left Tryon in 1950 to continue her musical education. After completing her lessons in New York, Eunice and her family moved to Philadelphia with the hopes of her enrolling in the prestigious Curtis Institute to become classically-trained. Eunice was denied a scholarship to the Curtis Institute after giving a reportedly stellar audition. Though she was told the reason for her denial was based on her musical performance, she was later told it was for another reason. Still somewhat naïve to racial inequalities, Nina was suprised when told by an insider she wasn't denied for any musical reasons but rather, "oh, it's because you're black!"

In order to support herself and pay for further education, Eunice became an accompanist for a singing teacher. Later realizing she could make more money giving lessons herself, Eunice began teaching piano and singing to young adults. Frustrated with the sub-par performance of her students and tired of dealing with the unrealistic expectations of their parents, Eunice looked for work as a performer. In 1954, she accepted a job at the Midtown Bar and Grill on Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. When Eunice appeared for her first night of work, she was informed by the bar owner she was not only hired to play piano but was also expected to sing. Without realizing what was happening or what lay in store for her future, Eunice reluctantly agreed and stepped into show business. In order to avoid disapproval from her family for performing in a bar, Eunice adopted a stage name. She combined "Nina," a pet name given her by a childhood boyfriend meaning "little one," with "Simone" from the French actress Simone Signoret for "its dignified sound." Eunice Waymon forever became Nina Simone.

YOU Could Be Jailed For Medical Reasons

Following the State of Maryland's threats against parents who refuse to have their children vaccinated, children were herded into a Price George County courthouse being guarded by armed personnel with attack dogs. Inside, the children were forcibly vaccinated, many against their will, under orders from the State Attorney General, various State Judges and the local School Board Director, all of whom illegally conspired to threaten parents with imprisonment if they did not submit their children to vaccinations.

The State of Maryland has now turned to Gestapo tactics to force its medical will upon the People, stripping parents of any right to decide how they wish to protect their own children from infectious disease. Health authorities there have already announced their intent to essentially kidnap parents and throw them in jail, removing them from their children for up to thirty days if they continue to refuse to have their children vaccinated. This will all be conducted at gunpoint, with armed personnel and attack dogs at the ready, making sure nobody steps out of line, and suppressing any attempt at public dissent against the Orwellian vaccination policies.

Useless Forced Immunizations

Questioning the safety of vaccines is a taboo topic in the United States and many other countries. The pressure is on most pediatricians to always counsel that the "benefits outweigh the risks" when it comes to vaccinating children. Yet, most parents have heard about the legitimate concerns many parents have that vaccines may have triggered their children’s autism or other neurological disorders ("NDs"). As a parent, we want you to know the following:

  1. Vaccines are big business
  2. Vaccines have real documented risks and the U.S. Government knows this.
  3. There are legitimate concerns over the efficacy of some vaccines.
  4. You can't be forced to vaccinate your child or follow the CDC's recommended immunization schedule.
  5. It is reasonable to think that we may be over-vaccinating children today.
  6. There is nothing wrong with choosing to vaccinate your child in a different way.

Deer Gets Revenge on Hunter

This is deer hunting season in the State of Michigan and upwards to a half million hunters descend upon the State to hunt deer every year with rifles and bows and arrows. God save the deer! What if the human population exceeded expectations and some other entity decided to draw down the population. No telling, but that may account for the strange war in Iraq or wars in general. Anyhow, the deer here fights back!

Saudi Woman Rape Victim Gets 200 Lashes

(CBS/AP) A Saudi court sentenced a woman who had been gang raped to six months in jail and 200 lashes - more than doubling her initial penalty for being in the car of a man who was not a relative, a newspaper reported Thursday.

The decision by the Qatif General Court came in a case that had sparked rare debate about the kingdom's justice system when it surfaced more than a year ago.

In its decision Wednesday, the court also roughly doubled prison sentences for the seven men convicted of raping the 19-year-old woman, the Arab News reported on its English-language Web site.

According to Arab News, the court said the woman's punishment was increased because of "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."

China manufacturers lace children's toys with liquid ecstasy

(NewsTarget) The next time you see your infant enjoying a new made-in-China toy, you might want to check to make sure he's not having too much of a good time: A recent discovery reveals that toys called "Aqua Dots" are coated with a chemical similar to liquid ectasy. When children eat the Aqua Dots (which they're not supposed to do, but they're children, after all), they go into an ectasy-induced coma. Six children have fallen ill in Australia where the toys are marketed as Bindeez. Manufacturers and distributors of the product are pulling it off the shelves in North America and around the world. It's the latest in a long string of health scares from Mainland China's product manufacturers.

P. Diddy's New Assistant-Heather Joy

A couple of months ago Diddy announced he was having a contest to find a new personal assistant. Simple rules: candidates post a video on YouTube explaining why they should get the job and he’d shake the best from the rest. Tons of videos flooded the site, but Diddy discovered he needed to clarify the qualities of a personal assistant. It was just a few days ago, with news of his Vodka deal and the Cavalli party, that I thought, who won that assistant job? That question was right on time, yesterday Diddy was on Oprah to announce the winner.

After watching thousands of videos he narrowed it down to three.

Heather Joy Thompson, has a law degree, Peace Corps, “smart.”

The Truth About Jesus

Looking at African-American history, is Jesus still relevant for African Americans today? What are the common misconceptions concerning Jesus that have been leveled at the black community?

By Charles Gilmer

When you hear the name "Jesus" what images and thoughts come to mind?

Devotion to Jesus has been a large part of the African-American experience. The black church has been and continues to be a powerful force in the African-American community. But many are questioning the propriety of African Americans following Jesus. Should we, as black people, follow this Jesus?

Some suggest that Jesus was a foreign deity forced upon our forefathers and mothers. Others suggest that worshiping Jesus has been nothing more than a psychological narcotic to deaden the pain of our oppressed existence. Still others contend that our forefathers' worship of Jesus was merely a mask for the expression of more ancient religious practices, a cover for the practice of "traditional" African religions.

How should we view that influence as we approach a new chapter of our history? Much is being said, yet is what you've heard the truth? Let's, you and I, examine some of these perspectives about African Americans and Christianity.

The best historical record of Jesus' life is found in the Bible. One of the most frequently posed challenges is directed at this book.

Is the Bible credible? Isn't it just a European book that has little to do with our people?

The answer to the questions are, "Yes, the Bible is credible," and "No, it isn't a European book that has nothing to do with our people." Black people are referred to and appear on the stage of biblical history many times. Several works have been done to chronicle these instances. One notable biblical character was Zipporah, Moses' Midianite wife. This means that Zipporah's father, Jethro, was also black. In the New Testament, there are several characters whom scholars believe were likely black due to the location of their home cities. The most undeniable instance was Lucius' comrade in Antioch, Simeon, who was called Niger. Niger simply means "black." African nations and African people are quite prominent in biblical times. To say that the Bible is the white man's holy book or to suggest that it is European in origin or nature, is simply not taking into account the facts.

Isn't Christianity a late arrival in Africa? Isn't it a foreign religion to Africa and Africans?
