Life's Little Victories

There exists a magnificent comic artist by the name of Keith Knight, who is syndicated and enjoys a wide audience. One of his on-going series is entitled "Life's Little Victories." This series is perfect in describing what I have noticed about my life — it's the little "victories" in life that I enjoy most. Sometimes a heartfelt smile from another person can cause me to feel as if I'm on top of the world! Keith's "Life's Little Victories" series chronicles such moments in our lives with which I'm sure many can identify. Here is a recent creation done from the troops' perspective. My perspective (since you asked) is to Hate The War, But Support Our Troops! You may see more by clicking here: K Chronicles.

In Leah’s Words:

Hi! My name is Leah Favors. I am 10 years old.

I have been invited to go to Florida so I can be in movies and be a singer and a dancer! It costs a lot of money to go. I’m sorta good at math so I told my mom and dad that I think if 7000 people will give me just $1, we will be able to go. Will you please give me $1 to help me go to Florida !?!?!?

In Our Words:

Leah auditioned at a regional talent search in April of this year. As a result, she made final callbacks and has been invited to attend the Millie Lewis Actors, Models, and Talent Convention (www.millielewis.com) , a national talent competition being held in Orlando, Florida in January 2008. This is a 6-day family- and Christian-centered event in which Leah will compete in front of, interview with, and be constantly assessed by over 1000 talent agents from around the world. Leah was chosen for the areas of runway modeling, television commercials, and print. Leah is a sweet little girl with a heart of gold. She has overcome a lot of early challenges in her life and continues to defy the odds. As her parents, we believe that this event will give her just the boost she needs to keep moving forward in life. Total costs to take her to this event will be about $7000. We told Leah we didn’t see how it could be done. However, Leah had a different plan and what choice have we but to support her? So, will you consider being one of just 7000 people to donate just one dollar or the gift amount of your choice to help get her to Florida? Corporate and/or private sponsors are welcomed. Be a part of history and be able to point to her on television one day and say that you were an instrumental part of her success!!!!!

Sincerely, Anthony and Tia Favors,

1930 Curry Family Census Information

Thanks to my niece, Kimberly Purefoy of Stone Mountain, Georgia, we now have a page out of the 1930 national census for the two Curry family households living in Indianapolis, Indiana. Listed are my maternal grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth Curry (and their children) and his oldest son's household, Clyde Curry (wife, Lola and then only child, Juanita). It's interesting to note that the only surviving relative from the two households is my maternal aunt, Ethel, who is not listed there because of her birthdate of 1931. Here is the copy from the actual 1930 census. (See Curry households near the bottom of the page.) Thank you so much, Kim!

I Have Seen the Enemy & It Is Me!

Why have I traditionally been my own worst enemy? Knowing what really is right for me, why have I consistently chosen to make the wrong decisions on my behalf? Why is it that someone can tell us, long before we reach our rest stops, the best way to go, yet we have to continue in the ill-advised direction which may consist of hard knocks, bumping against hard places, rocky roads littered with debris, broken glass, good intentions, broken hearts and buckets of tears. I finally have a clue! Considering the fact that God's will IS right and good then everything He allows into our lives is "right and good." So, since we haven't learned that it is better to obey and follow, we are doomed to the hard knocks until we learn the hard way is not the better way. From now until the end of my life on this plane of existence (in this mansion), I pray that I have learned to listen, that I have learned to dwell in the house of my Lord, and that goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
